It seems that we're facing a blank wall and that our complaint did not serve its useful purpose.

The first one to reply after several follow-up calls was Del Monte. The girl who answered Gertee told her that they need to see [and examine] the specimen first and reminded her that the rat parts issue was not true and in fact it was just a mold brought about by a small hole on the pouch blah blah blah. So Gertee asked her, have you seen my email and the attached pictures?  No. Duh. It sure isn't mold, right?

Next follow-up call was for BFAD. After several phone transfers, napunta call niya to a certain Ms. Joy of DoH. Oh di ba, she was calling BFAD, nakarating siya ng DoH :)

Ms. Joy enumerated to her the actual process of the complaint IF she was really willing to file a complaint against the Giant Company, Del Monte. She was trying hard not to sound discouraging - pero parang ganun na rin. She told Gertee that she has to go through a lot of this and that, blah blah blah ALONE. That if she wants daw to be free from all the hassle, she should give the specimen to Del Monte for them to investigate the case. Hay...

So asan na ang support from the government?

Pasok...Consumer Act of the Philippines

Bottomline nito, in cases like this: REPLACEMENT OF PRODUCT OR REFUND lang pala.

So she asked her "Di man lang kayo mag-didig deeper sa issue?" to which she was answered with "Kayo, kung gusto niyong mag file ng case pero ibang usapan na yun.." something to that effect. Hello...Gertee Borja against Del Monte...

This is so disappointing.

Now we're not even sure if calling the networks is the next step - kasi para saan pa?

Which made us think na kaya pala walang complaints na nariraise because the complainant has to go through a tedious process to prove that the company is at fault.

ipa-air mo kaya sa broadcasting networks? siguro naman maa-alarm sila pag nasa tv na...at mas madami na ma-aware with their kadiri product.

i-pa-media na yan! then by word of mouth & posting pics, maliit man nakakapuwing din! I-boycott ang del monte, they've been the one on top since God knows when! they don't deserve to be patronized! kahit mahirap, magpapalit na ako ng brand!

Oh I'm sure Del Monte will cry extortion again but who cares, my friend has the proof [which by the way ay gusto nilang kunin, duh!] and we made sure that almost everyone knows how unsanitized and unsafe their products are.

product replacement? ok lang sila? the point is their product is contaminated and since processing them packaging them happens by batches, obviously damay lahat.

sino nga ba naman magpu-pursue mag-complain kung ganyan kahirap at ka-hassle ang process...

naisip ko lang naman na i don't think Del Monte will admit to that, natural at masisira sila and they are just going to use their influence with all their might para lang pagtakpan ang mga makasisira sa kanila....

maybe in our own little way we can warn others, hindi man natin sila kayang labanan ng patas, we can still make our own network aware...

oh gosh!!! until now ifeel like vomitting.. much more now, knowing they're getting away with it..

true po, if this is the only way...let's fight BIG!! sino pa ba magtutulungan, kundi tayong maliliit na consumers..

i just hope this too will catch the attention of the establishments we frequently visit...

as an action, let's tell all our family and friends about this so that they will stop patronizing Del Monte. Hirap na health natin ang at risk dito.

Ang mga di kilala at tanyag di ineentertain ng BFAD or any government agency! Mahina ang support nila when it comes to this.

Nag try na akong i-send ang message na ito sa unang hirit kanina. Hopefully eh makatawag ng pansin since mommies din naman sila lyn ching-pascual at suzie entrata, pati na din si rhea santos. Kung may nakaka-alam ng email address ng 24 oras eh pakisend na lang din pati na siguro sa imbestigador para may back-up tayo. Ifinorward ko na sa mga network of friends ko ang issue plus personally called my best friends and mom, pati na yung mga nasa ibang countries. LET US MAKE A JOINT EFFORT IN THIS FIGHT FOR MERE REPLACEMENT OR REFUND OF THE PRODUCT WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE. IT WILL JUST BE ANOTHER COVER UP OF THEIR NEGLIGENCE. Wag tayo paintimidate sa mga BIG COMPANIES na yan nor mag pa discourage sa mga taga BFAD or DOH. DON'T THEY REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE? "THE CUSTOMER/CONSUMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!"

i had the same problem before with wyeth naman, isa sa mga gatas nila, nung nagtimpla ako ngm milk sa feeding bottle ng baby ko, may lumutang lutang na black substance, takot ako so i called their hotline right away, may dumating na rep. nila kinabukasan sa house namin, kinuha yung milk, pinalitan, after 2 days, nakareceive ako ng letter from them na safe daw yung paggawa ng milk nila, pinagaralan nila pero wala silang nakitang mali about the product, baka lang daw HINDI AKO MAAYOS OR MALINIS SA PAGGAWA NG MILK NG BABY KO, NEXT TIME DAW I SHOULD SEE TO IT NA SAFE ANG GINAGAWA KO. tama ba yun? ako na nga ang nagreklamo, ako pa NAPAGALITAN?? natural baby ko yun, i see to it na healthy siya palagi.. hay nako, sorry nag rant lang :D

thanks Mommy Maye, our family's safety and health are at risk here so this should be addressed, hindi lang basta basta replacement or refund. We just want to be assured that we are getting what we have paid for and we're buying the best product like what they have claimed.

Just playing the devil's advocate here. Del Monte is a big company with a lot of print ads and TVCs. If media goes against them, it would also mean a big revenue loss for the media company who does so... so this is not something they would be too excited to do...

the best thing to do is not to buy del monte products.. It is correct that Del Monte is a big and giant company but for the safety of the people??? there's no other thing to do but to publish it in public as well so that the concern people like the government will really look into it... if the government and DOH is really concern about the public safety then they better look into this matter seriously....

i think no use din na sa DOH kasi diba taga DOH yung Ms. Joy na nakausap niya na parang dinediscourage pa siya from filing a complaint. Wala na ata talaga tayong maaasahan sa mga government agencies natin other than to corrupt and take our hard-earned incomes.

with 2010 fast approaching, bakit kaya ndi tayo humingi ng tulong sa mga NAGBABALAK na mag run for higher position in public office (you know!). Pretty sure na big issue ito kasi BIG company ang involve at once they support our call, eh magiging mabango ang name nila sa public. Just a thought lang.

Greetings! It came to my attention that a complaint about a Del Monte product was posted in your blog. I am writing here to assure you and your fellow mommies that we take all consumer feedback very seriously and conduct a thorough investigation of each and every complaint.

Our Company has already retrieved a sample of the alleged foreign matter for analysis and the complainant, Gertee Borja, informed us that she will bring the packaging and the foreign matter to BFAD for further testing. We have requested complainant to furnish us with the BFAD results when available. In the meantime, we will submit a portion of the foreign matter to an independent third party testing agency. Separately, we will also conduct our own laboratory analysis.

With respect to the concern that the foreign matter allegedly found in the product is a squid, we have to note that it is impossible for any seafood - or any foreign object for that matter- to be present in the finished product given the nature of the equipment and the processes employed in its production. Our processes involve, among others, screening and filtering to remove any possible foreign object prior to filling in the individual packs.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the “rat parts” complaint previously raised is untrue. The laboratory investigation conducted by the UP Natural Sciences Research Institute has concluded that the product issue was a fungi. Such irregularity was caused by a pinhole on the pack. I have sent through your gmail account a scanned copy of the Business Mirror news article regarding our response to this previous complaint, in case you need more details; this is the same news article that your co-blogger, animetric, has shared in your forum through a link to her own blog.

Again, please be assured that Del Monte Philippines continues to be committed to provide our consumers products of high quality and to uphold the trust that our consumers have given us in the last 80+ years.

It depends on the company's policy or SOP regarding any actions on the complained products. As per Mr. Omana's letter, the machine could have broken down because it is designed only for tomato sauce. The squid would choke the machine and the whole production line would stop its operations.
